The Frederick National Laboratory is a Federally Funded Research and Development Center (FFRDC) sponsored by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and operated by Leidos Biomedical Research, Inc. The lab addresses some of the most urgent and intractable problems in the biomedical sciences in cancer and AIDS, drug development and first-in-human clinical trials, applications of nanotechnology in medicine, and rapid response to emerging threats of infectious diseases.

  • PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

  • The Facilities Maintenance and Engineering (FME) mission is to support the NCI at Frederick in their mission to cure cancer and AIDS. FME is responsible for the physical campus - its research laboratory space, administrative space, the infrastructure that supports the buildings, and the landscape that surrounds them. In addition, we are responsible for managing, planning, designing, and construction management of renovations at the FNLCR.

    KEY ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Develops schedules and coordinates across a wide spectrum of customers to oversee outsourced Maintenance Activities

    • Issues blanket releases to subcontractors for maintenance activity using fixed price, time and material and blanket order agreements

    • Schedules and monitors assigned maintenance work performed by subcontractors

    • Reviews and processes subcontractor submittals (e.g. coordination with EHS review of safety plans), ensuring compliance by subcontractors to NFPA Life safety codes, safety guidelines and applicable standards

    • Checks the equipment and material for compliance

    • Evaluates contractor's performance and follows up to resolve issues.

    • Conducts meetings with stakeholders' subcontractors and FME engineering and shop supervisors and Scientific staff as necessary

    • Approves invoices and administers warranty concerns

    BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

    To be considered for this position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:

    • Possession of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering according to the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). Experience may be substituted in lieu of degree. Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency

    • In addition to education requirements, must have a minimum of five (5) years of experience in fire system maintenance or installation

    • Experience in auditing and assessing maintenance activity for quality and compliance with NFPA requirements

    • Ability to analyze data and situations and make sound decisions

    • Experience in developing statements of work for implementing preventative maintenance activities

    • Experience in providing ideas for improvement of operating practices to reduce time and save on labor and material costs

    • Ability to conduct meetings and resolve conflicts arising on site

    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills both oral and written

    • Experience with OSHA standards and facility/workplace safety practices

    • Proficient in the use of computers and Microsoft Office Suite

    • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.; Position includes walking, standing, bending, stooping, climbing stairs, and exposure to dust or particulates

    • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    Candidates with these desired skills will be given preferential consideration:

    • Previous experience with Sprinkler and alarm system Preventative and routine maintenance at hospitals, research facilities, universities.

    • Experience overseeing construction of wet pipe sprinkler systems or installation of Fire Alarm systems

    • Experience in technical lead/work coordinator capacity for facility maintenance

    • Dedicated training in safety and OSHA-compliant maintenance and construction operations

    • Construction Supervisor experience

    • Familiarity with FNL Buildings and Operations

    • Ability to multitask and stay organized in a fast-paced environment

    • Strong communication skills with all levels of personnel through written and oral presentations

    • Ability to work in a team and communicate with management
