PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The Frederick National Laboratory is dedicated to improving human health through the discovery and innovation in the biomedical sciences, focusing on cancer, AIDS and emerging infectious diseases.

The Bioinformatics and Computational Science (BACS) Directorate works collaboratively and helps to fulfill the mission of Frederick National Laboratory in the areas of bioinformatics and computational science by developing and applying world-leading computing technologies to basic and applied biomedical research challenges, supporting critical operations, developing and delivering national data resources, and utilizing leading-edge software.

The Advanced Biomedical and Computational Science (ABCS) group is a part of BACS and serves as a hub of translational scientists with expertise in machine learning applied to the interpretation of 2D and 3D biomedical images, clinical and genomics integration, computational chemistry, protein modeling, bioinformatic analysis of omics data, and other applications of computational and data science. ABCS develops state-of-the-art technologies in large-scale data modeling, analysis, and integration and supports the scientific research at the Frederick National Lab by helping translate scientific questions to technical solutions for cancer and biomedical research.

KEY ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES

This position provides QA and Validation support for the web applications developed by the Advanced Biomedical Computational Science. Specific responsibilities include the following:
  • Define and establish automation strategy and process for Web, API, Data Validations and end to end business process validation.
  • Take ownership and responsibility for the design and development of all aspects of automated testing along with creation, execution and maintenance of automated scripts.
  • Collaborate with product owners, developers, security and other groups as needed in defining appropriate acceptance criteria and test cases for requirements and user stories

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

To be considered for this position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:
  • Possession of Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university according to the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) in Computer Science, Information Systems, Bioinformatics or equivalent or four (4) years relevant experience in lieu of degree. Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency
  • In addition to the education requirement, a minimum of eight (8) years of progressively responsible job-related experience
  • Experience with test case documentation and review
  • Experience integrating test harnesses and test results into continuous integration and build environments
  • Proven experience developing automated test systems and scripts
  • Management of Defects in creating, triaging and retesting of defects
  • Experience using SQL with regard to writing and understanding queries
  • Experience with Agile Software Development Methodology
  • Ability to work effectively with a team on complex projects with strict requirements, yet take ownership and work independently on large portions of a project with little supervision
  • Strong communication (written and verbal) and organizational skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with project managers, tech leads and developers
  • Ability to multi-task in complex/dynamic operating environment
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates with these desired skills will be given preferential consideration:
  • Practical working experience with cloud computing technologies such as AWS
  • Experience testing software or products for the healthcare industry
  • Knowledge of one or more of the following - Java, Python, PHP, AngularJS, Oracle, MongoDB
  • Familiarity with Test Automation Frameworks like Selenium, Cucumber,SOAP UI
  • Proven experience with PyUnit is a plus
  • Experience with application testing with Script based web framework like Django or ROR is highly desired
  • Demonstrate able experience in Responsive Design Testing through automation is highly preferable
  • Data science experience
  • DevOps experience
