The Frederick National Laboratory is a Federally Funded Research and Development Center (FFRDC) sponsored by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and operated by Leidos Biomedical Research, Inc. PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The mission of the Enterprise Information Technology Group (EIT) is to develop an enterprise-level, consolidated information technology infrastructure that provides exceptional IT capabilities to the Frederick National Labs for Cancer Research (NCI-Frederick/FNLCR) in support of basic, translational, and clinical cancer and AIDS research. The IT Operations Group (ITOG) is a part of the EIT Group within Leidos Biomedical Research, Inc. ITOG is responsible for computational servers, storage servers, virtual machine infrastructure, and the FNLCR network. ITOG focuses on implementing enterprise IT best practices in the areas of computational services, storage, backup, and archiving; batch and application support; server consolidation and virtualization; network infrastructure; unification of voice, teleconferencing, and video communication technologies; and improved infrastructure for collocation of dedicated servers.

KEY ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Designs and defines Enterprise Information Technology (EIT) system architecture for integration of multiple platforms, operating systems, and infrastructure across the enterprise
  • Determines systems specifications, input/output processes, and working parameters for hardware/software compatibility and maintenance of system security
  • Coordinates design of subsystems and integration of a total system into daily operations. Identifies, analyzes, and resolves program support deficiencies
  • Develops and documents the framework for integration and implementation of changes to technical standards
  • Assists in the development and management of an architecture governance process
  • Develops and recommends corrective actions that maintains full security compliance and operational functionality
  • Will provide technical leadership and guidance for both system and storage administrators in areas such as planning, performance monitoring, troubleshooting, and day to day maintenance of the infrastructure systems

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

To be considered for this position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:
  • Possession of Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university according to the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or four (4) years relevant experience in lieu of degree. Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency
  • In addition to the education requirement, a minimum of ten (10) years of experience managing various Storage platforms
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates with these desired skills will be given preferential consideration:
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in managing progressively complex IT infrastructure systems.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience managing VMware, VMware storage solutions and VMware networking
  • Minimum of ten (10) years deploying, configuring and managing server hardware
  • Minimum of ten (10) years configuring, supporting and troubleshooting various Linux platforms
  • Strong knowledge of Windows server and AD
  • Strong knowledge of storage protocols and permissions

EXPECTED COMPETENCIES
  • Determines infrastructure systems structural requirements by analyzing client operations; assessing disparate data types and file structures, applications, and programming; reviewing objectives with clients; and evaluating current systems.
  • Develops solutions by designing complex scientific systems. Defines systems physical structure and functional capabilities, security, back-up, and recovery specifications.
  • Installs systems by developing flowcharts, applying optimum access techniques, coordinating installation actions, and documenting actions.
  • Maintains systems performance by identifying and resolving production and application development problems; calculating optimum values for parameters; evaluating, integrating, and installing new releases; completing maintenance; and responding technical questions.
  • Responsible for developing and conducting training for system administrators on the systems capabilities, structure, utilization, reporting, etc.
  • Provides systems support by coding utilities, responding technical questions, and resolving problems.
  • As subject matter expert, interfaces with senior management on highest-level functional issues, providing recommendations and solutions with full understanding of cross-organizational impact and needs.
